Fantasies – we all have them. Some of them are kinky, some we wouldn’t dare tell our girlfriend/boyfriend/lover/husband/wife about, but they tend to be lots of fun. Toygasms discusses one of my personal favorite things – sex toys. Now contrary to popular belief, sex toys are not the exclusive province of women. There are plenty of toys that us men can use also, including things like Japanese sex dolls and more mundane but still enjoyable things like latex butts and a device I found that simulates the experience of getting a blow job (Not that I get much use for it – as regular readers know, my girlfriend is just as active in bed as I am, but it’s always nice to have the option in case I ever need it).

The third area that Toygasms discusses and one that I feel is often overlooked when discussing sex toys is the area of couples’ use of toys. Many sex toys are designed to make either the man or the woman feel good, but there are some toys that can be used for both of us and that will make both you and her feel amazing. Toygasms just shows you which ones to buy and how to use them to maximum effect. My girlfriend and I experimented with some of the ideas they mentioned and we can tell you from experience – they work like a charm.

The Big Butt Book - Dian Hanson

The song goes “I like big butts and I cannot lie…” Well, the author of the song would absolutely love The Big Butts Book. To be fair, the butts here aren’t all big, but they are all extremely beautiful. I’m an ass man from way back and I absolutely love a good, firm posterior on a woman. I know all about why we have butts and that they are supposed to help us with balance and of course they are there to use in the bathroom too, but really, show me a man who doesn’t love a gorgeous butt on a babe and I’ll show you a man without a pulse!

Now, for those who are thinking that this book is only a collection of butt photos, you’d be very wrong. There are a number of photos to be certain (and not all of them are perfectly rounded beautiful bottoms), but there is also a real discussion in the book of why we love butts so much and why we tend to think of them as being so sexy.

The ladies in the Big Book of Butts are mostly only partly nude, though the butts are usually shown in their full glory. The cover picture is probably the most typical of the kind of photos you’ll see of butts, except that it is covered by a little black lace thing. The rest of the book features some beautiful butts as well, though most of were not covered up in any way and in most cases you can see the women who own these beautiful posteriors as well. And as I said, the book isn’t only butt photos. There are also interviews with several queens of the adult entertainment circuit who discuss their own theories on the beautiful bums on the babes.

Bottoms Up: Spanking Good Stories - Rachel Kramer Bussel

Raise your hands if you fondly remember George Costanza telling Jerry Seinfeld how he liked a good cheek on a woman. When I saw that line, I couldn’t help but think more of the kind of cheeks one might find in Bottoms Up: Spanking Good Stories. These are the kind of cheeks that people enjoy having spanked (well, at least if they are adults of a certain age and attitude – I don’t think any kid likes having it done). As you can guess, these stories all revolve around spanking the naughty boys and girls in our lives and they are hot!

Bottoms Up: Spanking Good Stories (I do love that name) treats us to such erotica gems as The Purple Balloon (Not only was the story a fun read and amazingly hot, I always love getting new ideas on how to use common household objects in the bedroom. ) and Lonnie’s Licks, a comedic story of erotic lust and desire which can only be described as well, George Costanza’s favorite things on steroids – just replace the TV and food with laughter and you’ve got it all. Those are just two of the twenty stories you’ll find in this amazing collection, which if anything I only wish was a bit longer.

What particularly impressed me about this volume is that this was not the author’s first effort in the genre. In fact, Rachel Kramer Bussel had already given us three other erotica books before she put this project together. I say I’m impressed because too often, editors of erotica books tend to get complacent and loose the edge that made their first books such a hit. Not so with Bussel – in Bottoms Up, she really does offer some spanking good stories that are worth reading again and again and then using the ideas for some wonderful experimentation as well.

Open For Business: Tales Of Office Sex - Alison Tyler

With the advent of sexual harassment laws in the United States, we have seen that the office romance has become increasingly hard to pull off. Fortunately, for those who enjoy reading about such things, Open For Business: Tales of Office Sex has no compunctions about telling us the most intimate details of sex in the office and how they pounded each other next to the fax machine. It’s the ultimate fantasy for any man or woman who has ever had a hot boss or coworker and just wished for some kind of a release.

Open For Business will enthrall you with a variety of tales, including one of my favorites, a story of BDSM office romance called, appropriately enough, Memorandum. I won’t spoil the details for you by telling you what happens. Suffice to say that some office supplies may be involved and you will find it to be quite the ride. Women should particularly enjoy the imagery offered in “On the 37th Floor” and frankly, no one should miss out on reading Lonely at the Top by Savannah Stevens Smith. The nice things is that each story has a different theme – the only thing they have in common is the office, so you won’t be bored and feel like each one is exactly the same as the other.

Now you might think that as a worker in the adult entertainment industry, I’d have my own stories similar to those in Open For Business, but I can tell you that tales of office sex simply don’t happen here. It’s not that we don’t have our little office romances – it’s just that unlike the fantasy I and others here enjoyed in the book, our job is a real job and we can’t spend our entire day sliding computers off of desks (not to mention that it could get expensive). However, that’s exactly why I have a copy of this amazing book in my office – while I may not be able to bang Susannah down the hall, reading about what others might do is nearly as good.

Pleasure Bound: True Bondage Stories - Alison Tyler

In Pleasure Bound: True Bondage Stories, I found a book that I didn’t want to put down. Ah, the stories of bondage that you can read there– I do so love reading about hot babes tying up their men and men tying up their hot babes and let’s just say that certain parts of my anatomy have had quite a workout since I finished this book. More than that, I get a real kick out of reading about the hot and kinky sex they all end up having even if I didn’t want to try them myself (heck, who am I kidding? Of course I tried them myself – after all, what’s the good of having a job as an erotic book reviewer if you can’t sample the goods once in a while?).

What makes Pleasure Bound all the more enjoyable for me of course is that the stories are all true (Or at least, so we are told. I wondered about this when reading the camp fire story, but hey, who am I to judge what people do for fun? I just enjoy reading about it whether it’s real or not.). Some of the names and places have been changed to protect the innocent (or not so innocent as the case may be), but the stories really did happen as described here.

For the ladies, there is an awful lot to like in Pleasure Bound as well. Women who are into bondage will enjoy reading this book as well. I especially recommend they enjoy Shanna Germain’s story, Deal which my girlfriend has pronounced to be exquisite and beautiful. To me it was just sexy, but then again, I’m a man – I think with my penis. She’s the one who uses her head. And the irony is, she’s the one who got me into bondage.

Sex Work Writings By Women In The Sex Industry - Frederique Delacoste

What does it take to become a sex worker anyway? Sex Work: Writings by Women in the Sex Industry attempts to answer that question. If you think sex workers are all teenage runaways who fell into life on the streets because a pimp took advantage of them, you’d be wrong. While there are definitely women like that (and for that matter, women who were kidnapped as children and forced to work in the sex industry), Sex Work shows us that sometimes, it’s just ordinary women who for one reason or another decided that they really enjoyed well, working on their backs as it were.

The book is not quite what you might come to expect from the name. Sex Work does indeed show us profiles of women who work in the sex industry, told in their own words. Surprisingly to some, few of these women report having self esteem issues from their work. However, unlike other books on the subject, Sex Work takes things a step further and decides to show us also what these women are doing to actively empower themselves and make their lives better. It discusses for example the idea of unions devoted to helping sex workers get the rights that they deserve and in fact attempts, from a women’s perspective to defend the industry.

Personally, I’m fascinated when reading about how women got into the sex industry. It’s much more than just the standard “I was a teenage runaway” stories. It’s about actually making a conscious decision to use your own body for your benefit. Some women who do it think of it purely as a profession, others seem to really enjoy it. The end of the book can be a bit clinical, but it’s also a great read for those who care about the women involved in sex work.

Guide To Getting It On - Paul Joannides

The Guide to Getting it On has a zipper on the cover which is half open. The key is getting the zipper all the way open of course and that’s what this book is all about. Now I’ll admit, when I was growing up, I was kind of a geek – I didn’t know how to talk to girls and I only wished that there was a book like this available back then. Not only does it have the basic tips for getting the babe, it also shows you the sex tips you need to keep her happy in bed.

For those who prefer not to do much reading, The Guide to Getting it On is also fully illustrated and shows you in great detail exactly what to do and how to do it. The tips are both practical, like the one about using teeth or not and dealing with beard burn and the more unusual, like the section on goofy sex terms and what they actually mean. Plus, the book includes tons of advice for both men and women, so no one will feel left out. And lest you think the book is all about sex, it’s also about feeling better about yourself and your body – even if you’re not the next Larry Flynt model or a candidate for Playgirl’s hunk of the month, this book has advice for you too.

Personally, I approached The Guide to Getting it On with great skepticism. After all, I write about erotica professionally. I thought I had nothing to learn. Boy was I wrong. This book is a guide that everyone who likes sex (and let’s face it, who doesn’t) should have in their personal library and it should be studied repeatedly in order to find out all the intricate details about our bodies and those of our lovers that the priest, minister or rabbi would never have told you about in Sunday school.

Do Not Disturb Hotel Sex Stories - Rachel Kramer Bussel

Fair warning: Reading Do Not Disturb: Hotel Stories will likely make you either race to the local Motel 6 or stay far, far away from hotel rooms for the rest of your life. It all depends on your personal point of view regarding the idea of others having had hot, passionate sex under the sheets at the hotel or motel room you happen to be frequenting. I mean let’s face it, going to a hotel room is really an invitation to get naked and have some fun between the sheets. It’s exciting and sensual and damn, it feels good.

Bringing Do Not Disturb with you to your favorite hotel room (along with your favorite significant other, or just some hot gal or guy you met down in the hotel lobby for that matter) will make for the ultimate aphrodisiac. You’ll read stories such as The Royaltan where you actually get to experience what it’s like to engage in some pretty kinky sex games (and unlike the warnings on TV shows, these may be games you’ll want to try at home – but try them in a hotel room first just for the kink of it). Or if you’re more into reading interesting stories which just happen to be about sex, check out Talking Dirty, which is so much more than what you may initially think from reading the title.

I have to admit – I love my job. When I get to enjoy books like Do Not Disturb it means that I get to tell you about all the wonderful and titillating things I read about and that’s an amazing experience. Suffice it to say that when you read this book, you’ll understand why my girlfriend and I are sitting in a hotel room right now and she’s demanding that I finish up and come to bed. Gotta go – but first we’ll hang the do not disturb sign on the door. Unless the maid is hot…

Live Sex Acts Women Performing Erotic Labor - Wendy Chapkis

One could be forgiven for wondering at first if Live Sex Acts: Women Performing Erotic Labor is a book about women who have sex while they are giving birth. Okay, so it’s a cheap shot, but when dealing with something as personal and emotionally charged as the question of working as a sex laborer, whether in the porn industry or as a prostitute, one needs to have a bit of a sense of humor. That’s because the world these women work in is not the glamorous and wonderful world men sometimes imagine it to be. It’s a hard life and real work just like that of any other job. And Wendy Chakis pulls no punches in showing us what a day in the life of erotic laborers is like.

One of the nice things about Live Sex Acts is that unlike many other books about those in the sex industry, it doesn’t focus itself exclusively or almost exclusively on those who engage in prostitution with random strangers. Instead, this book talks about strippers, workers in the pornographic industry, phone sex operators and pretty much anyone who makes their living getting others sexually excited while not actually having sex with them.

While reviews on this book are sometimes mixed, I found it to be an accurate portrait of the world of the stripper and the pornography worker. No, it’s not all fun and games and it’s not all glamour and glory, but the work is pretty steady and the money is there for anyone who has a nice body and who wants to take advantage of it for her own benefit. For that reason alone, this book is worth a read, because it shows us that these women do have self esteem and do understand what it is they are doing. They’re not the stereotypical dumpster girl types who couldn’t find any other way to support themselves. In short, Live Sex Acts is definitely worth a second and even a third look.
