Forbidden Flowers - Nancy Friday

Contrary to what some may be thinking, there is nothing forbidden about Forbidden Flowers (well, at least, there is nothing forbidden about theoretically having these fantasies – acting on some may be a different matter) and the book is quite an enjoyable read at that. It is a little different than your average erotica book in that it in essence deals with sexual fantasies that various women might have for themselves instead of trying to create a completely fictional world; however that was the whole point. Nancy Friday shocked the world when she put out My Secret Garden and then went even further with this masterpiece.

Some may find the fantasies here to be a bit over the top. One of them in particular involving a canine relationship seemed quite implausible. However, over-all, the book is really about what ordinary people think about. Nancy also does a nice job giving us a bit of her own commentary throughout the book, telling us a little about what we may expect from each fantasy before we read it. This is good because it can ease you into the fantasy rather than tossing you head first into one.

I found myself reading the book slowly, which is somewhat unusual for me; however unlike the typical erotica book, this one is a series of self contained stories and each one can and should be enjoyed for its own merits. Some may also wish to skip a few stories (the niece story did seem a bit much to me), but over-all, I believe this one will definitely provide you with hours and hours of enjoyment, simply because it will let you into the minds of women from all walks of life who simply want what we all want – to enjoy our bodies.
